Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy FileMaker Pro/Server applications.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.

• Maintain and enhance existing FileMaker systems, ensuring top-notch performance and usability.

• Implement scripts, layouts, reports, and user interfaces to meet user and business needs.

• Integrate FileMaker with third-party systems via APIs and ODBC.

• Utilize PHP (where applicable) to create web-based interfaces, dashboards, or bridge integrations with FileMaker.

• Troubleshoot and debug application issues, ensuring seamless user experience.

• Stay updated with FileMaker platform upgrades and best practices.

Must-Have Skills

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in FileMaker Pro/Server development.

• Strong understanding of FileMaker scripting, calculations, relational database design, and security models.

• Experience working with FileMaker 18 or newer.

• Familiarity with layouts, value lists, scripts, custom functions, and plug-ins.

• Ability to work both independently and in collaborative environments.

• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice-to-Have (But Definitely a Plus)

• PHP development experience – especially with Custom Web Publishing (CWP) using FileMaker s PHP API.

• Web technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, REST APIs.

• Knowledge of Claris Connect or Claris Studio.

• Experience with container fields and document management within FileMaker.

A) Strong FileMaker technical skills

• Deep hands-on experience in FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Server (3+ years minimum).
• Confidence with scripting, calculations, relational database design, and security models.
• Familiarity with FileMaker 18+
• Ability to design layouts, value lists, custom functions, and use plug-ins.

B) Solution design & stakeholder collaboration

• Must be comfortable gathering requirements directly from stakeholders, not just coding.
• Translate business needs into scalable, usable solutions.
• Capable of explaining ideas clearly — communication skills matter.

C) Development & maintenance

• Develop new apps, test, debug, and deploy them.
• Maintain & optimize existing FileMaker solutions.
• Troubleshoot issues — they want someone who can handle the unexpected and solve problems fast.

D) Integration

• Integrate FileMaker with APIs, ODBC, and web technologies (PHP, REST, HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
• This is key: many FileMaker solutions are not “islands” — they often bridge to ERP systems, payment processors, Google APIs, CRMs, etc.

E) Nice-to-have extra skills

• PHP for Custom Web Publishing (CWP).
• Claris Connect or Claris Studio knowledge.
• Experience with container fields and document management.

F) Soft skills

• Work independently and collaboratively.
• Proactive attitude to stay updated with new FileMaker features and Claris updates.
• Good spoken/written English — clear, patient explanations.
